Über die Veranstaltung
Translation processes are always an interplay of de-contextualisation and re-contextualisation. Translation in art takes place on various levels. In artistic work, an aesthetic translation of urban experience, of foreign (everyday) cultures, of cultural possibilities and forms of understanding takes place. The experiences are transformed in the translation processes in that they are constantly given new frames of meaning in the artistic work, thus creating new interpretations. The symposium On the threshold of meaning - translation practices in dance is a three-day exchange between academics, artists and the public on aesthetic, medial and cultural translation processes in dance. Artistic practices are often multi-layered systems of meaning: between the situational, the everyday, the cultural, the social, between language and movement and various media and materials. The symposium will focus on how the framework of understanding and legibility in dance can be reconsidered. Through lectures, panel discussions, performances, workshops, working groups and audience participation, participants will have the opportunity to engage, question and explore their own creative processes and reflect on how translation strategies can be used to strengthen the connection to their respective artistic communities.
